I appreciate the information you presented regarding needs assessment and identifying gaps. Additionally, asset or capacity building is also important. Finding what is already happening is important to understand what strengths a community has. Building up existing structures helps to build self-reliance. Another component of asset and capacity building is to learn what those who actually live, work and learn in the community by doing an inventory of what they consider their go to groups for assistance. (Altschuld, et. al, 2014) What obstacles do they face in getting help and who are those that can help find the way to overcome those obstacles? In general, we often find the community already has necessary skills sets but may need a different approach to make things even better or more accessible.
