Consider two solid conducting spheres of radii r1 = 2 cm and r2 = 3 cm. Sphere 1 initially carries a net charge of +6 ?C and Sphere 2 is initially neutral (it carries a net charge of 0). The two spheres are placed very far apart on the x-axis (so the electric field from sphere 1 doesn't significantly affect sphere 2). The two spheres are now connected by a long, small, conducting wire, which causes the entire Sphere 1/ Wire / Sphere 2 system to act like a single conducting object. The charges will re-distribute themselves until the conductor is in electrostatic equilibrium, at which point the wire is removed.
1.) How does the voltage at the center of Sphere 1 compare to the voltage at the surface of Sphere 1? How does the voltage at the surface of Sphere 1 compare to the voltage at the surface of sphere 2? Explain.
2.) What is the voltage at the surface of sphere 1? What is the net charge on sphere 1? On sphere 2?
A 0.88 kg mass attached to a vertical spring of force constant 196 N/m oscillates with a maximum speed of 0.40 m/s. Find the following quantities related to the motion of the mass.
A constant magnetic field of magnitude 0.45 T is directed along the +y axis. The length of each rod is L = 1.3 m, and the speeds are the same, vA = vB = vC = 2.7 m/s. For each rod, find out the magnitude of the motional emf, and indicate which end..
A skier starts from rest at the top of a hill that is inclined at 12.0° with the horizontal. The hillside is 180.0 m long, and the coefficient of friction between the snow and the skis is 0.0750. At the bottom of the hill, the snow is level and the c..
A projectile is fired at an upward angle of 45° from the top of a 308m cliff with a speed of 198 m/s. What will be its speed while it strikes the ground below? (Use conservation of energy.)
What is specific gravity of this other fluid
The street automobile with the greatest acceleration is the Tempest. It has an acceleration of 6.89m/s2. Suppose the car accelerates from the rest to a final speed of 96.5km/h. How long does it take Tempest to reach this speed.
Batteries are rated in terms of ampere-hours (A · h). For example, a battery that can produce a current of 3.00 A for 5.00 h is rated at 15.00 A · h.
when free from rest from this spot, the particle arrives at B with twice the speed it previously had, or 2vB. Find the potential at B.
A uniform electric field of magnitude 271 V/m is directed in the negative x direction. A +12.7 ?C charge moves from the origin to the point (x, y) = (15.5cm, 46.0 cm). What was the change in the potential energy of this charge?
A car accelerates from rest to a kinetic energy of 2.06 x 105 J in a distance of 638 m. How much force did the car's engine deliver to produce this acceleration.
A tennis player receives a shot with the ball of mass 0.060kg travelling horizontally at v=43 m/s and returns the shot with the ball travelling horizontally at 60.00 m/s in the opposite direction.
An airplane needs to reach a velocity of 402km/h to take off. On a 2000 m runway, what is the minimum acceleration necessary for the plane to take flight.
