A neutron is elastically scattered by carbon 12 nucleus. Before the collision the carbon nucleus was moving along the positive x-axis with a speed of V0. The neutron was moving at a speed of 5V0 in the negative y direction. You can take the mass ratio of the two particles as 1 to 12. Find the velocity of the center of mass of the system. Transform all initial velocities into that frame of reference. Solve for the final velocities in the center of mass frame such that the carbon is moving in the negative y direction and the neutron is moving in positive y direction. Now transform back to original frame of reference. Check that you final results satisfy the appropriate conservation laws.
