A 8 m long board that has a mass of 6 kg is held up by two vertical ropes. The left rope is 3 m from the left end of the board, and the other rope is 1 m from the right end of the board. A 30 kg box sits 5 m from the right end. Find the tension in the rope on the left.

Hint:

With forces applied at different places, this is a beam problempick a pivot pointmeasure all distances from the pivot pointApply Στ = 0 Don't forget torque = force x dist, so you need to multiply the masses by g = 9.8 m/s2 If you need more information, apply ΣF = 0
