A 10 m long board has a mass of 15 kg. The left end of the board is against a wall and it sticks straight out like a boom.  A rope is tied 1 m from the right end of the board and makes a 54 degree angle with the boom. A 40 kg box hangs 3 m from the right end. Find the tension in the rope.

Hint:

With forces applied at different places, this is a beam problempick a pivot pointmeasure all distances from the pivot pointApply Στ = 0 Don't forget torque = force x dist, so you need to multiply the masses by g = 9.8 m/s2 If you need more information, apply ΣF = 0
