Question: Anything that has a temperature higher than absolute zero (0 Kelvin) gives out radiation. See figure 5.8. The Sun gives out radiation, mostly in the visible light range. From figure 5.8, the Sun's surface temperature is around 5800 K. This relationship is called the Wein's law: The maximum radiation wavelength depends on the object's temperature, as in the formula below,T 10x3 6 max λ is in nanometers (nm) and T (temperature) is in Kelvin. Follow the example 5.3 to find the surface temperature of the Sun if the maximum sunlight is emitted at λmax = 520 nm.
