Question: A balcony is supported by S6 x 17.25, A36 structural steel beams spaced 10 ft on centers. The balcony projects 6 ft from the wall and carries 200 psf on floor area. The deflection at the end of the beam is prevented by AISI 1020 steel rods fastened from above. Find the size of rods necessary and the maximum stress in the beams. Rod spacing is 10 ft.
