A variant of the binary symmetric communication channel described in class is called a binary erasure channel. The transmitter sends a ‘0' or ‘1,' but at the receiver there are three possibilities: a ‘0' or ‘1' or ‘undecided bit (called erasure)' received. If the receiver cannot decide, it will ask the transmitter to resend that bit. Define the event T1 = {1 is sent}, T0 = {0 is sent} and assume that they are equally probable. At the receiver we have three events: R1 = {1 is received}, R0 = {0 is received}, and Ru = {cannot decide if the received bit is a 0 or 1}. Given the following probabilities: P{R0|T0} = P{R1|T1} = 0.9 and P{Ru|T0} = P{Ru|T1} = 0.09.
(a) Find the probability that a transmitted bit is received as "undecided."
(b) Find the probability that a bit is received in error.
(c) Given that we received a ‘0,' what is the conditional probability that a ‘0' was sent? What is the conditional probability that a ‘1' was sent?
The nameplate on a 50-MVA, 60-Hz single-phase transformer indicates that it has a voltage rating of 8.0-kV: 78-kV. An open-circuit test is conducted from the low-voltage side, and the corresponding instrument readings are 8.0kV, 62.1A, and 206kW.
Imagine a network layer packet that travels from one host to another host across multiple local area networks interconnected by routers, Explain how the packet moves from device to device through the network.
a) Express the s-domain impedance of this series combination as a rational function, b) Give the numerical value of the poles and zeros of the impedance and verify your calculation by matlab.
You do some quick measurements and find that the area of the lagoon behind the dam would be about 5m wide by 20m long, and the lagoon would be about 3m deep at high tide, and 1m deep at low tide.
A DTMF signal with duration T seconds can be modeled as a sum of two cosine signals with frequencies frand fc, multiplied by a rectangle function. For example, the DTMF signal for "1" is g1(t) = rect (t/T) * [cos(2pi*687t)+cos(2pi*1209t)]
A dielectric rod of radius 10mm extends along the z axis from z=0 to z=10m. The polarization of the rod is P = [2z^2+ 10] az (az ==> is towards the z component in other words its the the unit vector k )
What are the two possible frequencies to which the local oscillator could be set? What bandwidth should the 10.7 MHz IF amplifier have?
suppose that another FM station is in the vicinity is broadcasting at 98.1 MHz. determine the relative value of the voltage across the resonant circuit at this frequency compared with that at 98 MHz, assume that the current produced by both signal..
design a regulated poewr supply with these specs Output a dc voltage of 10 V Load Variation: 0.3 -10000ohms Ripple Factor: less 0.1% for 2000ohms load
Calculate the converter voltage VC1, reactive power, the converter phase current and modulation index.
Express the sequence x(n)={1 n=0 , 2 n=1 , 3 n=2 , 0 else} 1- Express the signal as a sum of weighted and shifted unit impulse sequence. 2- Express the signal as a sum of weighted and shifted unit step sequence
