A spring without mass has natural length Lo. One end is stuck to a fixed point and the other attached to a mass m. The entire system is immersed in a viscous medium which exerts a force proportional to the velocity of m ( = kv). The force constant of the spring is k2/4m. Initially, the spring is stretched to length x0, and released. Find the position of m as a function of time; evaluate arbitrary constants in terms of initial conditions. Calculate the rate at which the total energy changes at time t = pm/k, and graph it as a function of time.
