1) Select suitable rolling element bearings for the shaft in Figure 1 below. You will have to select the bearing from the catalogue page supplied in your book.  In addition to the load being applied, there is an additional thrust load on the right bearing of 100 lbf from a bevel gear mounted at P. The bearings must support the load with a probability of failure of 5% for at least 70 Million cycles at 1500 rpm. Assume a shaft diameter of d=1.1875 in, b = 18 in and a = 16 in. Assume the inner-raceway is rotating.

2) Find the Petroff no-load torque for the journal bearing in Case Study 10B.

3) Find the minimum film thickness for a bearing with these data: 45mm dia, 30 mm long, 0.001 clearance ratio, 2500 rpm, ON=25, ISO VG 220 oil at 200 degrees F.

4) A paper machine processes rolls of paper having a density of 984 kg/m3.  Tge paper roll is 1.5m OD x 22cm ID x 3.23 m long and is on a simply supported, 22cm OD, steel shaft.  The roll turns 50 rpm.  Design suitable hydrodynamically lubricated full-film bronze short bearings of l/d=0.75 to support the shaft at each end.  Specify the viscosity of the lubricant needed at 180 degrees F.  State all assumptions.
