An artificial membrane of thickness 0.1 mm separates two well-mixed fluids containing sucrose. The concentration of sucrose on side A is 10 mM and the bulk concentration on side B is 2 mM. The partition coefficient for sucrose in the membrane relative to fluid A is 0.3 and the partition coefficient for sucrose in the membrane relative to fluid B is 0.2. The diffusion coefficient of sucrose in the membrane is 3.6x10-10 m2/s. Find the permeability of the Membrane for transport from side A to side B. Would the magnitude of sucrose flux through the membrane be the same if the fluid concentrations were reversed?
