Question: Public Policy and Political Science In many states, lawyers are encouraged to do pro bono work by both their firms and judicial advisory councils. However, in recent years lawyers have been devoting more time to paying clients and less time to pro bono legal aid. Independent random samples of lawyers from two large firms were obtained, and the number of pro bono hours for the past year was recorded for each lawyer. The summary statistics are given in the following table.

Assume the underlying populations are normal, with equal variances.

a. Is there any evidence to suggest the mean number of yearly pro bono hours is different at these two law firms? Use a = 0.01.

b. Construct a 99% confidence interval for the difference in mean pro bono hours.

c. Does the confidence interval in part (b) support your conclusion in part (a)? Explain.
