Experimental: Complete Ray Tracing Diagrams and make measurements on an optical bench to measure object and image distances for a convex lens.

Analysis

1. Find the focal length by observing an object at infinity.

2. Draw ray tracing diagrams and for each case find the image and describe whether it is upright or inverted, virtual or real, larger or smaller than the object.

3. Set up experimentally the described cases in the ray tracing diagrams and for real images measure the image distance and magnification.

4. Using the thin lens equation calculate the image distance and the magnification and tabulate them.

5. Find the percentage difference between calculated and measured.

Report Requirements:

1. Objective

2. Theory (one paragraph, in your own words)

3. Measuring Instruments table.

4. Data/Calculations tables.

5. Analysis:

6. Conclusion:

Follow the Conclusion Format described in the beginning of the lab manual.
