NASA has attempted to use the concept of motional EMF to produce energy for satellites in orbit. The space shuttle would release a satellite that is tethered to it by a strong conductive cable. The satellite, cable, and space shuttle would then be traveling perpendicular to the Earth's magnetic field (above the equator) with a value of 5.0 x 10^-7 T at a speed of 17,500 miles per hour. The cable length is 1.00 mile long. If the satellite has an average current of 200 mA, what is the equivalent resistance of the electrical system of the satellite? (this is motional emf).
