The potential use of "gasohol" as an automobile fuel has been in the news due to the elevation in the price of gasoline (octane). Typically, gasohol is a mixture of 90% octane H8C18 and 10% ethanol C2H4OH. Determine the energy output of 1 gram of gasohol using the following two pieces of information:

1. When 1 gram of octane is burned in oxygen it has a thermodynamic output of 47.7 kJ
2. When 1 gram of ethanol is burned in oxygen it has a thermodynamic output of 29.6 kJ.

1. 42.7 kJ of energy for 1 gram of gasohol

2. 43.8 kJ of energy for 1 gram of gasohol

3. 45.9 kJ of energy for 1 gram of gasohol

4. 46.1 kJ of energy for 1 gram of gasohol

5. 46.7 kJ of energy for 1 gram of gasohol
