a) A bar-shaped piece of silicon at room temperature is one inch inlength and has a 100 μm2 cross-sectional area (i.e. 10x10μm). It is doped with phosphorous to a concentration of1017/cm3. Find the electrical current through the bar when avoltage of 10 V is applied across the one-inch dimension.

b) How long does it take an average electron to drift from one endof the bar to the other?

c) Suppose now that we operate in the high-field regime and apply avoltage of 250 kV. What is the electrical current and how long doesit take an average electron to drift from one end of the bar to the other?
