The article that I disagreed with the most was "Internet safety is the new internet freedom". I appreciated the points the author made about how an internet where harmful acts occur is not wanted but I think that too many regulations can be an issue. In America, we love our freedom. If this is impeded on, it can be seen as a violation of rights because monitoring and over-correction can impede on free speech. Safety is important but when security comes as an issue, it can be difficult to justify the measures taken to ensure safety. I agree with the authors opinion that the government should find the balance between safety and freedom. If they do not, it could cause an outcry.
In my personal life, I've never had to deal with violations of privacy from parents but I do have an issue with platforms like Facebook that sell my information. I think companies that do things like this do not truly have the consumer in mind even though they claim it is to improve user experience. I recently started getting a lot of spam emails and I think it is from giving my email to a platform that I use. One of my core values is respect and I think it is disrespectful to sell consumer information to third parties without informing them. Sometimes, as consumers, we do not know the implications of having our data spread across the internet. It is duplicitous to sell information as a guise of improving user experience when it can actually prove harmful.
