1. A golf ball of mass 0.10 kg is hit from the ground at an angle of 30 degrees above horizontal with an initial speed of 20 m/s. Assume there is no wind drag. or friction.

a. Find the initial kinetic energy (KE) and gravitational potential energy (GPE) of the ball at the point where it leaves the ground.

b. Find the KE and GPE at the highest point of its trajectory. Is the total mechanical energy conserved? Justify your statement.

2. A frictionless spring of spring constant 500 N/m has one end attached to a verticalwall and the other end to a block of mass 2.0 kg, which is free to move in one dimension on a horizontal frictionless table. When the spring is relaxed the block is at x=0. Now the block is pulled to a displacement of 20 cm and left to oscillate. Assume no friction.

a. Find the amplitude and frequency of oscillation.

b. After how much time does the block first return to x = 0?

c. What is the time period of the oscillation?

d. What is the maximum Elastic Potential Energy?

e. At what positions in the oscillation does the maximum Elastic Potential Energy occur?

f. What is the maximum kinetic energy (KE)?

g. What is the maximum speed of the block?

h. What is the speed of the block when it is at x = -10 cm?
