Question: A safety diaphragm at the end of a 3 m long pipe containing air at a pressure of 200 kPa and a temperature of 10°C suddenly ruptures, causing an expansion wave to propagate down the pipe. Find the velocity at which the air is discharged from the pipe, the velocity of the front and the back of the wave, and the time taken for the front of the wave to reach the end of the pipe. Assume that the ambient pressure of the air surrounding the pipe is 100 kPa.
