Compute the right solution of the following Problem
Problem- Consider a mountain range that has been uplifting at a rate of 10 m/Myr for the past 5 Myr. Assume that the top of the range is still flat (a remnant of the gently sloping rocky landscape that existed before uplift began) and has not undergone significant erosion since uplift began.
Part 1- Estimate the thickness of the soil or regolith at the hillslope at the top of the mountain range (P0 = 0.04 m/kyr is a reasonable value for the production rate of soil).
Part 2- Estimate the soil/regolith thickness on the side of the mountain.
Note: you will need to use the soil production function that we discussed in lecture. Now assume that a nearby hillslope has steepened sufficiently on the side of the mountain range to come into a steady state with tectonic uplift.
I want help to determine soil/regolith thickness on the side of the mountain.
