i. Explain a problem or question to be tested by a scientific investigation

ii. Formulate a testable hypothesis and explain it using scientific reasoning

iii. Explain how to manipulate the variables, and explain how data will be collected

iv. Design scientific investigations.

Design an investigation on circular motion from one of the following 4 options.

Circular Motion

4. Design a lab on circular motion to find the relation between centripetal force and the mass of an object.

Circular Motion and Gravitation

Global Context: Orientation in time and space

Stage-1: Inquiring and Research

Think - What do you already know about the relationship between the IV and the DV?

You will need to identify at least one variable (factor)which affects the DV and design a Research Question. You will have to formulate a testable hypothesis and explain briefly about the relationship you are expecting and why. Research on possible factors and explain the Independent, Dependent and Controlled Variable(s). You also need to explain how and why you need to control the controlled variables.

Stage-2: Designing the Investigation

Discuss an effective scientific method to carryout suitable Investigation with appropriate experiment setup diagram. You need to research and think the detailed list of materials required for the investigation. Formulate data table. Write up your investigation following the planning and rubrics given below.

Your Planning needs to be in the following order:
• Research Question
• Hypothesis
• Variables
o Independent
o Dependent
o Controlled
• Materials
• Method
• Diagram(experimental setup)
• Data Collection Table.

Stage-3: Submission of Investigation report

Design: Produce a plan, simulation or model
Describe: to give a detailed account or picture of a situation, event, pattern or process.
Explain: give a detailed account.
Formulate: Express precisely and systematically the relevant concept(s) or argument(s)
Outline: Give a brief account.
State: Give a specific name, value or other brief answer without explanation or calculation.
Suggest: Propose a solution, hypothesis or other possible answer
Interpret: Use knowledge and understanding to recognize trends and draw conclusions from given information

The report explains how to demonstrate a lab on circular motion which helps to find the relation between centripetal force and radius of object from the axis of rotation. The experiment. At the same time, the report give an idea of the characteristic of uniform circular motion. It not only gives the theory of circular motion, but wonderfully derive the same mathematically using vector analysis. Also, it says how to do the experiment for measuring the centripetal force in a circular motion. To conclude that, the report gives an overall concept of the theory of circular motion, its characteristics, simple proof (experiment) and the result of the experiment etc.
