Many of us are familiar with dating sites such as Match and eHarmony. (Yes, there also are Tinder and the infamous Ashley Madison, which are better known as "hookup" sites.) They do cost money and individuals that join the sites are expected to place personal information about themselves.

Arguing from an economic viewpoint, why would individuals use these sites to find possible partners rather than depending upon workplaces, bars, and other organizations for their searches?
