The purpose of the Visual Urban Sociology project is for you to use "photovoice" as a means of conveying sociological concepts, theories, and/or themes. Essentially, act as if you were the editor of an Urban Sociology textbook. Your task is to find pictures that you can connect with ideas we discussed in class this term. You can choose broad topics like urbanism, social problems, and social policies, for example. Or, you can use more specific topics like gentrification, racism, and homelessness, for example. Once you find a picture that matches up with your concept, write a 3-4 sentence description of how it relates to the textbook and include an in-text citation for every photo description with a page number as well as a reference list at the end of your project. Copy and paste the photos into Word document and add a heading and description below each photo. You will need to use at least 10 concepts, theories, and/or themes with captions and descriptions. The pictures you use can be ones you have taken personally or ones you find online (copyright is not an issue since you professor will be the only person reading your presentation).
