This is my advice to sally on collaboration at work. Do you agree or disagree xan you add any advice? Sally, I understand your concerns about collaborating with a co-worker that has different ideas, educational and cultural background than you. However, this could be an opportunity to create something so profound that it is around for decades to come. By working with someone of a diverse cultural and educational background they could give you a perspective that you would not think of on your own. You will have more diverse group of ideas and theories to work with. You can not only learn more about different subjects and the person you are working with, but you can also learn more about yourself by working with others. Ken Blanchard talks about learning from other people in his TedTalk stating that no one of us is smarter than all of us. That to stay up to date we must learn from other people." (2012, Blanchard). Your co-worker may have the same concerns as you. To make yourself and co-worker feel more comfortable spend some time together and get to know each other before starting on the project. Instead of worrying about the collaboration hindering or impacting your performance in a negative way, try thinking that the person may elevate your performance to a new level that you could only have imagined and could only reach by a collaboration.
