Acetylsalicylic acid, commonly known as aspirin, is a weak monoprotic acid used as an over the counter drug to remedy various ailments. One complaint commonly associated with aspirin is stomach upset. This form of stomach upset typically occurs from the presence of too much acid. Many "antacids" are available for upset stomach relief. The pH of the stomach is typically around 2.5, but fluctuates after eating.

a) Using what you know about acid/base chemistry, determine the immediate effect that two 325-mg aspirin tablets would have on the pH of the stomach. Assume your stomach is half a liter in volume. (acetylsalicylic acid: MW = 180.157, pKa = 3.490)

b) Determine the Percent of Asprin available for the various pH (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13)
