Sea water containing 3.45 wt % salt is to be treated by reverse osmosis in the system shown on the next page. The feed to the system is 750. lbm/hr and the desalinated product water (D) contains 0.0750 wt % salt. The mixed feed to the osmosis cell contains 5.25 wt % salt. The waste brine (B) from the system contains 7.25 wt % salt. For this problem: a) Draw and label the diagram for this system b) Write out the balances for the entire system c) Write out the balances for the mixing point d) Determine he amount of desalinated water (D) produced, e) Determine the amount of waste brine (B) from the process, and f) Determine the fraction of the brine leaving the osmosis cell that is recycled.
