A large national study conducted in 2004 found that the mean systolic blood pressure for males aged 50 was 130. Researchers hypothesize that due to increased stress in the workplace, systolic blood pressures have increased. In order to test this hypothesis a random sample of 200 males aged 50 in 2018 was selected and found to have a mean systolic blood pressure of 136 with a standard deviation of 15. Is there evidence the mean blood pressure has increased? Use α=.05.
Give each of the following to receive full credit: 1) the appropriate null and alternative hypotheses; 2) the appropriate test; 3) the decision rule; 4) the calculation of the test statistic; and 5) your conclusion including a comparison to alpha or the critical value. What do the results mean? You MUST show your work to receive full credit. Partial credit is available.
