The psychologist from history that I find most interesting is Sigmund Freud. I chose this fascinating human being because of the powerful impact and legacy of his work upon us all (in modern day and beyond). The theory for which Sigmund Freud is best known for his theory psychoanalysis, a postulation about how the human mind works, and as a consequence, the ability to construct methodologies towards finding solutions to aid people suffering from mental distress.
Freuds believed that human behaviors are by nature influenced by the mind's unconscious memories, its thoughts, and urges and coined such operational terms as the id, ego, and superego to explain as much. His life's work in founding the theory of psychoanalysis had helped sculp the study of Psychology, and in great measure, has influenced the modern practice of the discipline. In the past, several military co-workers of mine were beneficiaries of psychoanalytic treatment, with successful outcomes.
