A river with long, straight, parallel sides 10 km a part flows from north to south at 3 m/s. A swimmer enters the river on the east side and swims due west (i.e., his head is always pointing west) at 2 m/s. How far downstream is the swimmer when he reaches the opposite shore? Explain your answer in detail.
