Case Study: last week we read two short stories: "Speech Sounds" by Octavia Butler and "Girl" by Jamaica Kincaid. They are two very different pieces of writing! However, I want you to take some time to discuss the following questions with your classmates. I am going to post some questions to different threads here. You should make sure to respond to at least two questions, but also contribute to the various conversations that emerge from each thread.

Questions:

1.Discuss with each other what you think the main idea of the story is. Try to come up with a statements ( complete sentences) that express an important idea in the story. For example, if one of the themes in the story is language, what is the story saying about language? ( can you articulate that in a complete sentence?)
