At my current job, my interview was direct and involved open-ended questions. I do find benefits to open-ended communication as it brings more discussions to the conversation. During the interview, the questions asked were, what are my strengths and weaknesses, why I am a good fit for the school, and what made me interested in working there? I was also asked if I have had any prior experience with children and how I handle stressful situations. While I was the applicant, I do believe that the questions were fitting as I planned to become a teacher's aide. A school must have well-experienced teachers and staff that take care of their children but also handle situations well. I felt more intimidated by a face-to-face interview personally, but I do believe that relationships are built and respect is formed from both the employer and the applicant.
A word of advice that I often tell others is to have prior experience in the field of work you want to be in. Experience will give individuals the opportunity to experience the career before they commit to a career. Many interviewers and programs respect those who have experience and are usually accepted if the other factors are approved. Another word that I often tell others is to be optimistic wherever they are positioned in their field. Those who aren't cheerful and content in their position also have a dissatisfied attitude that can be carried to others. With optimism, a new lesson in life can be learned if there is dissatisfaction in your job. I recently experienced this in the last school year and used it as an opportunity to learn something new.
