After reading chapter 9, it is time to put your interviewing skills to good use!
Your task is to find and interview someone from an organization other than your own, about the interventions discussed in chapter 9: Resonant leadership; Goal setting; Social support; Teamwork; and Diversity programs.
Your aim is to explore whether these interventions are present in the interviewee's organization, and how successful they are in alleviating/preventing/buffering stress for the employees. The interviewee can discuss his/her personal experiences regarding his/her supervisor or manager, or the experiences of coworkers with management. If none of the interventions are used in the organization, you can ask your interviewee which of the interventions they think are most needed in their specific workplace to help reduce stress and why?
- This person can be a friend, a family member or even a former colleague.
- The interview does not have to be formal, long or complicated.
- You can copy and share the summary table on page 132 with your interviewee to explain what the topics are and help structure your conversation (make sure to read and understand the content of chapter 9 before the interview).
- You can ask the interviewee to share specific examples of their experiences to illustrate their answers.
- Take some notes during your interview.
Initial posting - Summarize your findings from the interview, making sure to focus on how and why the organization in question is using /can use the 5 interventions to help prevent stress for its employees. Remember to show connections to the textbook using citations (400 words minimum).
