An object (C) of mass 0.1 kilogram strikes a second object (D), of mass 0.3 kilogram that is initially at rest. Mass C has an initial velocity of +2 m/s.

A) Suppose that the collision is entirely elastic. Find and describe those final velocities for the two objects. Suppose that this problem is entirely one dimensional.

B) Now suppose that the collision is totally inelastic. Again find and describe the final state for these objects.

C) For the inelastic collision case, find the total energy of the system before and after the collision. Is mechanical energy conserved in this case; if not account for the discrepancy?
