Design Problem - FLUID PROPERTIES AND HYDROSTATICS
Understanding basic fluid properties and hydrostatic equilibrium are foundational components of understanding fluid mechanics. To increase your physical intuition of fluids, complete the following tasks for this design problem:
1) Find an interesting example of hydrostatics. This could be something from your personal experience or perhaps something that you find interesting from the web.
2) Meet with your Design Problem group to discuss your example of hydrostatics.
3) Document the fluid properties of your example of hydrostatics.
4) Perform calculations using either the hydrostatic equation or the piezometric equation to explain your example of hydrostatics.
5) Combine all the work from each of your group participants into a Final Report.
Each participant should provide the following documentation (in 3 to 5 pages):
Overview: Describe your example of hydrostatics.
Diagram: Provide a diagram(s) that describes the hydrostatic system.
Measured Variables: Document all variables (including fluid properties), and how they are used.
Equations: Clearly explain all equations that are used to describe the fluid properties and hydrostatics.
Division of Labor: Each student's contribution to the Final Report should be denoted by including their name on their section.
