Search the web for a business' or organization's website that you find effective (it would be even better if you can find a website of a potential competitor to your portfolio project subject).
Your posts should have an introductory sentence or two. Always state the purpose of your document so that your reader has context for your comments. Your post should provide specific comment on the website you choose that ties to this week's reading. Detail will be important in this post.
Here is a link to the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) home page which has a lot of information for consumers. The site covers all sorts of topics, from identity theft to health and fitness: https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/
Here are some comments about the design - there have been some changes since my last visit to this site.
• What are some particular things about this website that you admire? The color scheme is appealing without being overwhelming. The blue headings provide consistency. The use of Sans Serif font gives the page a clean look. The white space is good - the page doesn't look too busy.
• What could have been done better or more concisely? The home page is easy to read; there are a lot of topics covered here, which would probably prompt a viewer to look at other topics than just the one he/she was looking for.
• Could any of the information you see be better represented visually? The page seems well laid out; it is consistent, which is an important element of web design. I found the page easy to navigate.
• Are there areas in the website that could be enhanced by adding a chart or table? Possibly, a table or chart might improve the Online Security page. There are a lot of topics listed and you have to scroll down to see them all. A table or chart might be more visually effective and also alert the viewer to all the topics.
• Discuss the aesthetic properties of the website in terms of white space, font style and color, layout, ease of navigation, etc. As noted in general comments, the white space, colors, and font are in line with good web design. Ease of navigation is good. Links worked when checked.
• Overall, this website is well organized and is designed to be accessible to a general audience.
