For our purposes, a transect is a path where you identify features and record your observances as you move through it.
Select: find a safe area that you can explore. Select a beginning point (e.g. your residence) and an end point that would take at least 20 minutes to walk
Prepare: Safety first! Make sure you bring regionally appropriate supplies (e.g. hat, water, insect repellent, cell phone). Let someone know ahead of time or take someone with you and then get out there!
Explore: Next, write down noticeable details. When describing your details, think about your full sensory experience. What are the sounds, sights, or smells that you can perceive? We strongly encourage you to take some photos and share them in your post.
Reflect: one paragraph reflection, discussing, for instance, how your perception that you used to produce your mental map differed from your experience of consciously exploring your environment. Describe where you conducted your transect. What did you notice? If at all, how has this experience changed the way you think about your environment? Did anything surprise you? What were other people doing? Please to include at least 2 photos with captions describing what your images shows embedded first, followed by your reflection.
