FIN400 Internship in Finance - American University of the Middle East
Course Objectives

1. Students will understand the relationship between finance theory and actual financial practice;
2. Students will acquire knowledge of the theory, tools, terminology and professional ethics of finance;
3. Students will reflect on the principles and practices learned throughout their finance concentration courses and how these might be applied in real life situation.
A. Assessment 1 - In this assessment you must prepare a comprehensive report on the company assigned to you highlighting the following:
1. The executive summary of the company including the ownership structure, origin, and evolution of the company.
2. A discussion on the general landscape of the industrial sector to which your allocated company belong clearly highlighting the general challenges and opportunities met by the players in that industrial segment.
3. A special reference to and a brief comparative analysis to the global leader in the industry is also required.
4. A descriptive SWOT analysis of the allocated company illustrating the future prospect, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and challenges the company may have to face.
5. A critical evaluation of how the company has been affected by the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. Here you may refer or cite some news articles, journal articles, or other material evidences to support your evaluation. Your evaluation must also include a price chart of the company showing the price evolution of the company before and during the COVID-19 crisis to substantiate your arguments.
B. Assessment 2 - In this assessment you must conduct financial statement analysis for the firm based on the financial and economic information available for the latest 3 years. The information is available on Boursa Kuwait website, the link to which is posted against each assigned company. The downloaded financial statements must be uploaded through a separate link on Moodle named as ‘Upload Financial Statements' as an artefact/evidence. Your financial statement analysis must include the calculation, interpretation, and trend analysis of the following ratios for a period of 3 recent years:
1. Liquidity Ratios
2. Asset Management Ratios
3. Profitability Ratios
4. Debt Management Ratios
Note: Calculate all ratios for each category using the formulas at the end of this document (Annexure A). For example, you will need to calculate and interpret following liquidity ratios: quick ratio, current ratio, cash ratio. If some ratios cannot be calculated, report the reason. For example, inventory turnover cannot be calculated for a company which doesn't have any inventory.
C. Final Assessment - In this assessment you must calculate and interpret the following ratios for the same selected period of 3 years as in Assessment 2, besides presenting the trend analysis.

Besides ratio analysis, you must also conduct the following:
2. Use Du-Pont Equation to identify the key weaknesses or strengths of the company.
3. Perform the valuation of the firm according to the below given methodology.
a. You are required to calculate the Price of the stock, assuming a constant growth perpetual dividend discount model, and compare it with the current market price. You must write in details whether the stock is currently undervalued or overvalued based on your analysis, and provide your investment advice (Refer to Annexure A for more details).
In this deliverable, you are also expected to prepare a comprehensive report summarizing your findings from Assessment 1 and Assessment 2 by writing a fluent and congruent evaluation of the assigned company.
D. Presentation -
The Presentation is an Assessment designed to help evaluate the level of the student's competency with regards to the Internship Material. In other words, in the Presentation the student is expected to summarize what he/she has learned as a result of the research and analysis he/she has conducted when preparing the three assigned assessments. After the student makes his/her Presentation, the Instructor may ask several questions. An average Presentation is about 10-15 minutes, followed by a 5-10 minute Questions & Answers Part.
