We just finished fermentation test for bacteria. We tested for fermentation using various carbs and also used Durham Tubes to test for the production of gases. The fermentation tubes were incubated too long.I understand how this gave us a false reading by effecting our PH levels once the carbs were used up but one was supposed to be able to produce gas also. Why did the over incubation cause the gas to come back negative for all of them even though one can produce gas from lactose and glucose?
