Please review/edit/provide feedback on my essay below regarding laser dentistry.
The field of dentistry is constantly evolving and changing to best suit patient needs. There are many advantages to being treated with any new and high-quality technology in the dental field. From helping to prevent future mouth diseases and curing present ones, as well as keeping our teeth white, bright and clean, we can use all these new technologies to prolong our dental hygiene for a healthier mouth and over all save time in procedure and recovery time.
This new form of technology is called "Laser Dentistry" which uses lasers to improve efficiency and eliminate discomfort in many dental procedures, including filling cavities, reducing tooth sensitivity, getting rid of tumors, and whitening. The terms in LASER stand for 'Light Amplification by the Stimulated Emission of Radiation (Burke and Weill, pp. 223). A laser can be termed as an instrument that produces narrow but intense streams of light as energy. Lasers are important as they cause a reaction when they meet the tissues of the skin. The light that is produced by the lasers either modifies the tissues or removes them completely. Lasers act as cutting instruments or vaporizers of the tissues that they come into contact. For instance, low-level lasers can be used for filling cavities, hence an effect in the strengthening of bonds existing at the tooth and filling joint. Because of its benefits, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved laser machines for drilling and filling cavities, as these lasers can also reduce the bacteria in the cavity. (Burke and Weill, pp. 223).
Laser dentistry has also been used to remove bacteria from periodontal pockets. Though, this technique has been limited in root canal therapy. These lasers have been able to clean out a root canal and remove bacteria, though there are limitations as the instruments are glass and they are not able to bend to conform to the canal space. Furthermore, laser dentistry has been used in cosmetic dentistry to whiten teeth. The dentist would simple put a solution on the teeth, and use the laser to activate the solutions. This is much more effective and convenient than buying over the counter whiteners that tend to need multiple applications to make a difference.
With all these amazing advances in the dental field one can imagine that being treated with high-tech dentistry has many advantages and benefits for one's oral health. From preventing oral issues and diseases to keeping one's teeth healthy, white and bright, new high-tech tools are helping us save time and prolong our oral hygiene.
