Companies today do seem to favor having interested parties apply online. On the other hand, that isn’t to say going in person will never work. One session a student posted this: I have used a few different techniques for job hunting including online resumes, in person resume drop offs, staffing agency and job fairs. The most effective technique was to physically walk into the business and talk to the manager. One example was when I got a job at Chase, I was told to apply online but I decided to walk in anyways and talk to the manager, and out of about 5 bank applications Chase was the one that called me and hired me. I have had no luck with online resumes, I have submitted probably a few hundred and have never had a call back. Every time I walked into a business and talked to the manager I was hired. The staffing agency I went through landed me my current job as Marketing Coordinator. I feel that the reason I got it was because I called the manager and requested an interview. I think the reasons it works better to speak to a manager in person is because it shows a genuine interest in the job. Speaking in person allows a good opportunity to sell yourself.
