Question

How would an ITDS work with the family to adapt the home environment for a 16 month old toddler who is legally blind? Encourage the family to keep flooring free of loose rugs and cords have permanent locations for items model and suggest picking up, placement of toys as a strategy to engage the child in his/her own environment and provide good indirect lighting. minimize sounds such as loud television sets model a strategy of saying 'No' when child approaches a dangerous area use light, moveable furniture and a minimum number of toys. keep rooms darkened and relatively free of furniture and appliances have large toys for play present toys and meals on bright colored cloths or areas and keep sounds to a minimum. allow the child access only to certain rooms with limited furniture or appliances use primarily natural lighting provide small toys that can be handled easily and will not trip the child when walking and limit noise.
