In early 2021, employer associations were disappointed that the Australian Parliament rejected the majority of a Bill to amend the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth), as Parliament believed the changes would not be in the interests of employees and unions. For two specific elements of the Bill that were rejected, use Boxall and Purcell's (2016) theory of the four goals of human resource management to explain why employer associations were disappointed.

Note: The Bill was called the 'Fair Work Amendment (Supporting Australia's Jobs and Economic Recovery) Bill 2021'.
