Question
Compose a thoughtful reply to the discussion, "One major event in labor history that had "carryover" to the modern practice of HR, is the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) of 1938. This was a significant milestone in the history of labor, greatly impacting how Human Resources (HR) functions in modern workplaces. Originally the act was passed during the challenging times of the Great Depression to tackle harsh working conditions by setting minimum wage standards, controlling maximum working hours, and addressing child labor practices. Nowadays, the FLSA has changed how employers and employees interact and help shapes the future labor regulations that still influence HR practices today (Labor Standards, para. 3). One of the more significant factor of the FLSA was the placement of a federal minimum wage. This made sure that workers received at least a basic level of pay for their work (The New Work Force, para. 8). This concept remains crucial in US labor laws, obligating HR departments to ensure companies and businesses are legally paying minimum wage requirements, adjust pay rates as per government rules, and handle any wage-related issues that may bubble to the surface. An additional significant installation of the FLSA was the requirement for overtime pay for hours worked beyond the standard work-week of 40 hours. This rule has a lasting impact on HR practices, with HR professionals now responsible for tracking employee work hours, ensuring eligibility."
