At my facility the human technology interface that could use the most improvement is the electronic medical record, Meditech. This program is very outdated and is very difficult to navigate. There have been many times during a surgery that the surgeon is needing reports from imaging pulled up, and it takes a very long time to find the report. This issue can result in surgical error or patient harm. The system is also very different from departement to departement. For instance in the operating room we are unable to see what the floor/ICU nurse has charted on the patient and no other department can see what the ER nurse has charted on the patient. The physician's note do cross over so at least you can see what the physicians have dictated. Threre is a lot of room for improvement on this program. "The goal of improving EHR interfaces will directly enhance provider wellbeing, patient outcomes, and quality of care" (Jalilian, 2022. p 4).
