Sarah is an 18-year-old who lives at home with her parents. She has a physical disability that has caused her to be wheelchair bound. You are her support worker on a routine visit discussing her options for the future.

Sarah has received excellent results in her A-Levels and wants to study English at degree level. Despite having the grades, Sarah says she is very worried about attending university as she is embarrassed about her disability and has little confidence which affects her ability to communicate with others. She also says she is worried about travelling to and from university and does not want to leave home.

You are concerned that Sarah has lost confidence in herself and her abilities due to her disability, and you are concerned that this may stop her from attending university, which could affect her prospects in the future.
