Some of the tools that we read about in the class allow collaborating among many locations. Most of these technologies like web conferencing, email, etc. can be used to communicate with people who are located in different time zones or even all over the world. In my last class, a student said, "Through technology, our ability to communicate and collaborate with a wide range of people is increasing exponentially. If used properly, these advances can make the world a smaller place by exposing us to people outside of our comfort zone."
This brings up some interesting thoughts. As the workplace becomes more and more distributed - even throughout the world, collaboration issues become even more critical. The tools you mention certainly help facilitate communication and collaboration, but there is much more than that. Now we're dealing with time zones throughout the world, cultural differences, language barriers, and other challenges.
A few questions to think about: Can you think of other challenges we're facing in today's distributed workforce? Are there technological tools that might help? Have you used any tools that have helped to mitigate some of these issues?
