"Dylan Adamson, a banker from Dublin, Ireland, was assigned for several weeks as a troubleshooter in the Rome office. To facilitate his adjustment to the Italian banking system and to assist with translation, the branch manager suggested Dylan work with Maria Fellini, a bilingual employee of the bank.
Maria, like Dylan, was single and in her early thirties; she lived with her widowed mother. Maria invited Dylan to their home for dinner. When Dylan arrived, he brought a large bouquet of chrysanthemums for Maria's mother as a token of his appreciation for her hospitality. Maria answered the door, greeted Dylan, and took the flowers into the kitchen. But for the entire evening, neither Maria nor her mother mentioned anything about the flowers.
Dylan felt that perhaps he had done something inappropriate, or maybe they were just nor appreciative."

Outline what went wrong in this scenario. Can Dylan's ignorance of the situation be excused by the company? Discuss the ethics of providing gifts in a business relationship. Should gift-giving occur?
