Write an annotated bibliography about one external influence on consumer behaviour. The external influences have dedicated chapters and can be grouped as:

  • culture and values
  • demographics, income and social class
  • reference groups and households

(The sources you collect in this assignment will be used to complete Assessment 2 )

An annotated bibliography is an extended version of a reference list. A reference is provided for each source (e.g. book or journal article) in APA 6th style. Immediately following that reference is an "annotation" or paragraph that describes and evaluates the source. The annotation for each source is no longer than a paragraph (around 150-200 words)?Several guides to writing an annotated bibliography have been placed in your resources folder on interact.

This is a 4 step process

Step 1: Pick one of the external influences on consumer behaviour

Step 3: In addition to the text, find six (6) sources related to that external influence (2 should be academic journal articles).

Step 4: Write an annotated bibliography describing and evaluating the text book chapter plus the six (6) additional sources.

(They can be both academic and industry sources of any type including books, websites, conference papers or audio visual material, but at least 2 should be journal articles).

To write your annotation you need to write out the full reference for the source. Following the reference you need to write a paragraph (annotation) about the article (Your paragraph should be no longer than 200 words for each source). In that paragraph you need to comment on each of the following:

  • Where did you find the journal article / source?? Why did you select it?? How old is it?? Comment on the authority or background of the author? Comment on the intended audience and degree of difficulty of reading? What are the main findings or arguments of the journal article?? Compare this source to one of the other sources you have cited? Evaluate how the findings in the source improve your understanding of the internal influence you have chosen?

Make sure to have a look at the marking guide (in the Resources folder "Assignment Materials") before completing this as more detail is provided about how to answer the questions.

(NB: You do not need to include a reference list)
