1. look for ways people express empathy. if you do not find any expression of empathy, what are your thoughts about why that might be true? After three conversations think about how you express empathy. Write down these expressions of empathy and tell your experience being empathetic.
2. Pay attention to ways that you and other people express warmth. List four specific ways that people express warmth that you think would be appropriate in a professional relationship. what about other people behaviour communicates that they are cold, detached, or lack warmth? Also, notice the situations where the expression of warmth might be inappropriate such as, hugs that are too close looking at someone for too long as so as to suggest filtration or patting on the head or back.
3. Think about you have participated. Write down one way a group leader began his or her group meetings. Discuss whether you think his or her way of beginning effectively set a comfortable tone for a group meeting. If you believe the group was started in a way that is not effective, discuss what you remember about what made it seem ineffective.
4. Think of a time when you felt that another person really understood you:
-How did he or she convey this to you?
-In what ways did he or she let you know that he os she grasped where you are coming from?
-Write a sentence that conveys understanding another's person position even though you don't agree with that person's position?
5. What people do say about you belive demonstrate respect? Also, notice what people do or say that you believe demonstrate a lack of respect. Write a list of things that you noticed that demonstrate respect?
