Assignment:
Explore the trends in the literature and sources like Becker's Hospital Review to see what looks interesting and something that could help investigate the selected applied projects (Process Improvement &Technology Implementation Project) that will offer a unique recommendation or proposed solution. If you don't already subscribe to Becker's Hospital Review weekly updates, I highly recommend this as a free way to stay up to date on current and emerging trends and issues.
Make sure to focus on healthcare administration and management literature. Michael Porter is a renowned scholar who publishes on healthcare topics for Harvard Business Review. Look at some of his work. Look at the healthcare administration journals.
For this assignment, continue using the two topics (Process Improvement & Technology Implementation Project) and develop a problem statement and a purpose statement for each.
Remember, a problem statement itself is usually only one or two sentences. It clearly explains the problem your project will address, otherwise the significance of doing the study is hard to understand. The problem becomes clearer as you ask, "What is the need for this project?" A problem statement must also be supported with current literature. You will provide justification of the problem through current and relevant scholarly and professional literature. An effective problem statement contains the following elements:
- States the issue, problem, or situation
- States the particular population (if applicable)
- States how the population is affected
- Cites supporting literature (scholarly and professional)
- Points out any gaps
- Logically transitions to the purpose statement
An effective purpose statement clearly states the reason you are conducting your project and sets the scope, objectives, intent, and major idea of the project. It mentions the type of project being conducted and does not include any reference to possible conclusions of the project. An effective purpose statement is usually no more than one or two concisely formed sentences and contains the following elements:
- Identifies what you are going to do, how, for whom, and why.
- Provides the reason for the project.
